Feast of Fields is FarmFolk CityFolk’s annual local food celebration and fundraiser, highlighting the contribution local chefs, restaurants, farmers, ranchers, fishers, food artisans, vintners, brewers and distillers make to our local food economy.
In a few short weeks, Okanagan Feast of Fields will be held at Caldwell Heritage Farm on Sunday, August 13th where guests are invited to taste, sip, and enjoy the local creations from over 60 of British Columbia’s best food and beverage providers, presenting a true reflection of the incredible offerings in their own backyard.
With wine glass and linen napkin in hand, guests meander around the farm, listening to music, and tasting delicious creations. Feast of Fields emphasizes how participating local food and beverage artisans are connected to the land, support the regional economy, and create the most delicious local, seasonal, sustainable flavours BC has to offer.
Proceeds from Feast of Fields support the continuing efforts of FarmFolk CityFolk in each of the regions where the events are held. The funds are needed to help our farmers and food businesses, protect our farmland by keeping it in production, and to engage the public to support local food businesses – including the participating food and beverage artisans and producers you will find at Feast of Fields.
FarmFolk CityFolk has built a market for local food through the Feast of Fields celebration event. Since its inception, Feast of Fields features only local producers, artisans, winemakers, brewers and distillers, and chefs that have existing relationships with local farmers and producers. Feast of Fields offers a great way to highlight their commitment to local, sustainable food and make new foodies friends that truly love and support the local food movement.
The unique farm locations for the Feast of Fields are fabulous hosts that provide a rare opportunity to visit a working farm – connecting producers and consumers.
Nestled in the woods on a quiet country road in southeast Kelowna, you’ll find a little farm unlike any other at Okanagan Feast of Fields. As you wander through Caldwell Heritage Farm you’ll discover rambling gardens, rustic stone pathways and rich green pastures abounding with unexpected treasures. Caldwell Heritage Farm features ‘The Ladies’, beautiful free-range chickens who provide farm fresh eggs for the family and visitors, seasonal ‘you-pick’ vegetables and flowers and the opportunity to step back in time with their impressive collection of vintage farm equipment, industrial tools, trucks and antiques. Visitors to the farm will get a sneak peek at their small batch craft farm distillery in the making. With grains grown within a stone’s throw of the distillery, a true ‘farm to bottle’ product will be available in late 2017. Kristi and James, self-described urbanites, suddenly inherited the farmland paradise Kristi’s parents had founded. Excited, overwhelmed yet determined to keep this lovingly created acreage in the family and to provide a lifestyle for their young daughters that was healthy, sustainable and unique – they packed up their city life and moved to the farm.
