This first ‘real’ week of work of the New Year was filled with food and wine announcements that are all exciting additions to the culinary scene here in the valley.

Ricco Bambino Urban Winery & Garden Bar announced their opening for May 1st.  Unlike many wineries that are decorated with rich woods, metals, warm colours, Ricco Bambino is twisting that concept on it’s ear and going for pastel pink walls and Art Deco in style.  They are going to be releasing a Viognier, Bianco, Rosé, Brut, Rosé Brut and a Syrah for their spring opening…just in time for the Spring Wine Festival.


The Delta Grand Okanagan announced that they are welcoming a new Executive Chef this month – Daniel Craig.  No..not 007 from the movies but Chef Daniel Craig from the Ritz Carlton in Toronto.  He and his family are making the move to the Okanagan and we are certainly going to benefit from his culinary expertise.  He is also a member of Team Canada in the 2019 Bocuse d’Or International Competition which is like Top Chef on steroids!  Chef Craig will be in charge of food service for not only the hotel but also Oak + Cru.

Summerhill Pyramid Winery had two announcements this week.  Chef Mara Jernigan is joining the team as manager of the winery and bistro.  Chef Jernigan is from Cowichan Valley where she had a water buffalo farm and ran culinary classes.  She has now relocated to the valley and will be working with the Cipes family hosting 3 day culinary weekends using the produce from the Summerhill gardens paired with their organic wines.  And it was also announced that Chef Jeremy Luypen, formerly of Predator Ridge will be joining them as Executive Winery Chef.  We’ll definitely have to plan a visit to the bistro this spring!

It was also announced this week that Chef Rod Butters and Audrey Surrao from RauDZ Regional Table and micro bar & bites are opening a third restaurant in downtown Kelowna.  This new space will be on Bernard and called Sunny’s.  The concept is a modern twist on a retro diner and will open with breakfast and lunch service extending to dinner service when the summer arrives.  Construction on the space has already begun.

We are just at the beginning of 2018 and I can’t wait to see what other food and beverage news is ahead for us!
