Dine Around is back.  Running until February 4th, this initiative from the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association and the BC Wine Institute is organized to encourage us to get out, try a new restaurant, enjoy our local wines and support the restaurants in our community or as promoted ‘Sip, Savour & Save.’  Participating restaurants put together set menus for $15, $25, $35 and $45 with suggested wine pairings.  I’ve put together a list of some of my favourites participating in Dine Around this year.

Walking into Ricardo’s is like walking in into a happy Italian kitchen and getting a big hug.  This place is in Lake Country adjacent to a trailer park and serving up incredible food.  Chef Dew has put together two menus, $35 and $45 each giving us 3 choices of appetizers, mains and desserts but I have my eye on the Brownie Explosion on the $35 menu. This is worth the drive to enjoy these menus.  They have live music on Thursday nights so pair that with an incredible set menu price, some delicious wine pairings and you have a night out to remember.

Tucked on Ellis Street by the corner of Water, is Central Kitchen + Bar.  It’s located inside that half dome sports complex but you don’t have to be playing floor hockey in there to enjoy the restaurant.  They have 2 different menus for $35 including a Fettucine Alla Vongole finished with their Churros.  Be sure to leave room for dessert.  These house made cinnamon donuts with chocolate ganache, salted caramel and whipped cream are worth the visit alone!

Consider having your Valentine’s Day dinner a few weeks early.  Both Bouchons Bistro and Waterfront Wines Restaurant have $45 menus that seem perfect for a romantic evening out.  Bouchons is serving up the classic French dishes of Escargot on Puff Pastry, Boeuf Bourguignon and Creme Caramel.  Next door at Waterfront Wines, Chef Filatow has a few of my favourite food combinations with Seared Scallop & Lobster Cake, a Heritage Corn, Leek & Ricotta Ravioli followed by a Poached Apple Pavlova.


Red Fox Club at Indigenous World Winery always does something unique.  Modern native cuisine is how they describe their menu and it’s delicious. We enjoyed lunch on their patio in the summer and everything tasted delicious paired with the Indigenous World wines.  They are offering a $15 lunch menu and a $25 dinner menu.

And what I think is a hidden gem, Infusions.  Infusions is the restaurant at Okanagan College run by the Culinary Arts students.  Infusions is open Tuesday – Friday from 6:00 – 9:00 pm for dinner and they have the deal of the day.  They are featuring a 3 course $25 menu with Shellfish Bisque, New York Steak & Braised Short Rib and dessert is a Frangelico infused Creme Brulée.  They have also paired their menu with three local wines.  Not only are you enjoying an incredible meal, you are also helping to support the training of our future chefs who one day may own a restaurant in your own neighbourhood.
